Latest blog post 7/25/12: Charter schools are not cost-neutral
Parents Across America-Seattle (PAA-S) is a local chapter of Parents Across America, a non-partisan, non-profit grassroots organization that connects parents and activists from across the U.S. to share ideas and work together on improving our nation’s public schools.
PAA-S is committed to bringing the voice of Seattle’s public school parents – and common sense – to our local education debates. Check out what we believe works – and what doesn’t work — in education. Our blueprint to reform NCLB is here, featured on the Washington Post Answer Sheet and endorsed by the SOS March.
Parents Across America was founded by a group of activist parents who recognized the need to collaborate for positive change, rather than remain entrenched in separate battles in our local communities. The top-down forces that are imposing their will on our schools need to be countered by genuine grassroots organizations like PAA-S.
Up to now, the parent perspective has been almost entirely missing in the policy proposals being imposed in many school districts across the nation, including our own. To this day, many of these practices, focused on increased privatization and high-stakes testing, are based not on solid research nor supported by most parents. In contrast, we advocate for proven, progressive measures, such as reducing class size and increasing parent involvement.
Our children, our schools, our voices.
